What comes first? Changing how we relate to food or how we relate to ourselves? How I chose what to put in my body changed when I read somewhere, "Stop treating your body like a garbage disposal!"
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment and raising an interesting question. i actually think you need to do both to lose weight and keep it off. In terms of relating to food, the skills are developing self-efficacy to manage your weight and using cognitive-behavioral self-control strategies, mindful eating. In terms of relating to ourselves, it is self-compassion, regulating affect in nonfood ways, and healthy self-care.
